3 Reasons to Join a Small Business Directory

There are numerous reasons to join your local small business association, especially if you’re starting your own business. It’s a purely win-win situation, and I’ve outlined the top three reasons that will benefit both you and your community:

1. Networking
Small business associations provide networking opportunities. Members are encouraged to participate in mixers, educational seminars, workshops, holiday parties, and social events, which will help you to build relationships, get ideas, and promote your mission.

The DBA is Coachella Valley's LGBT Business Association, a worthy cause and a great organization.

2. New Clients
Once relationships are formed and you’ve become a familiar face, you will seamlessly generate new clients who believe in you and your business. And never underestimate the power of word-of-mouth!

Joining the PSHA allowed me the opportunity to network and find leads.

3. Business Directory
Members of small business associations get the benefit of being listed in their business directory. That directory serves as a direct and credible reference point for new, existing, and visiting members of the community.

The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce hosts monthly events and publishes a great local guide

Many small business associations work with local charitable organizations or are 501c3s themselves, which serve the community as whole by promoting positivity, inclusivity, and goodwill. And your participation on a committee or as a diplomat is a great way for you to give back to your community by sharing your skills with charitable organizations who can benefit from your expertise.

When building your budget, consider devoting a few hundred dollars a year towards local business organizations like these, or if that's outside your means just signup for their newsletter and attend mixers with friends already in the organization, you might just find it will be worth your money.

Why You Should Perform a Break Even Analysis before Starting Your Business

Running a small business is not for the faint-hearted. It requires a lot of stamina, determination, and knowledge. One of the vital skills you need is to know how to perform a break even analysis. Not sure how to perform one? Don't worry; we'll take you through the process step-by-step. What Does Break Even Point Mean? This is the point in your business where your costs and revenue are equal. When you discover what that figure is, it's time to evaluate all elements of your business. This includes the cost of labor and materials and possibly rent, if you don't own your own building. This is also a good time to examine your pricing structure to determine if your prices are too low. If your prices are too low or your costs too high to reach a break-even point in a reasonable amount of time, then your business is in danger of being unsustainable. The Formula for the Break Even Analysis There is no one formula for this—in fact, there are a few ba...
